The Breif
Mobile World Congress is one of the world's largest technology trade events, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors across several days. Google tasked Brandfuel with creating an outdoor presence for Android that went beyond a standard exhibition stand - something that felt like a destination in its own right, capable of communicating the breadth and relevance of the Android ecosystem to a global audience.
The Challenge
Working at this scale - a 220m² outdoor exhibition area in one of the world's most competitive event environments - meant every design decision had to work hard. The space needed to feel cohesive and brand-led while housing multiple zones and product stories simultaneously. It also had to hold up visually across the full arc of an event day, from press morning through to evening footfall.
My Role
As a long-standing member of the creative team at Brandfuel dedicated to this project, I was involved across concept ideation, 3D design development and visualisation, spatial planning, material and finish specification, and brand storytelling. I also led the team through key stages of the design development process.
The Design
Android Avenue was conceived as an open, walkable street-like environment - a deliberate contrast to the enclosed booth format typical of trade shows. The layout guided visitors through a series of moments, each anchored around a different aspect of the Android ecosystem, from everyday utility to connected living. Material and finish choices were selected to feel premium and tactile while remaining true to Android's approachable, human brand character.
The Outcome
The design was built as conceived and debuted at MWC Barcelona 2022. The finished space successfully positioned Android as a modern, expansive ecosystem rather than simply an operating system - drawing visitors in and giving the brand a distinctive physical presence in one of the most competitive exhibition environments in the world.
