PFA Awards 2026 – Stage & Set Design Pitch

Concept Ideation • Design Development • 3D Visualisation

Client: The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA)
Location: Manchester

The Brief

Stage and set design for key moments across the PFA Awards ceremony - English football's players' union event honouring winners across the Premier League, WSL, and EFL. As a black-tie occasion, the space needed to feel warm and celebratory rather than stark, while still giving each award moment its own distinct visual identity on stage.

The Design

The concept centres on rear-projected tensile fabric pillars carrying dynamic content - category branding, winner names, and imagery - that shift and reconfigure between segments of the show. Lighting the fabric from behind rather than relying on front light was a deliberate choice: for a black-tie audience in a large, dark auditorium, we wanted to avoid presenters and guests reading as silhouettes lost against a dark backdrop, so the pillars themselves become the light source, giving the stage a warm, glowing presence throughout the ceremony.

My Role

Led concept ideation and design development for the pitch, developing two distinct staging routes and producing the 3D visualisations used to present the concept.

Why This Project

A strong example of solving a lighting and staging problem through the design itself - using the set as the light source rather than adding lighting on top, tailored to the mood of a major black-tie broadcast event.
